Our client’s brief:
When restaurateur Iain McFadzean first saw Paul’s work in other venues, he knew he wanted something equally distinctive. Durability was key - in busy restaurants and bars, furniture and surfaces must withstand constant use - and Scottish hardwoods provided the perfect solution.
The project began with a challenging space: a vast, mock-Tudor style dormitory hall with little character to build on. Paul stripped the interior back completely, taking inspiration from a small stone carving of a boat by a local artist. From there, he reimagined the layout around a large central bar that also serves as the management hub.
Sculpted elm and glass screening in wave-like forms break up the open hall, creating intimate corners with fixed leather seating, warmth, and flow. Signature elm doors, mirrored wave reflections, and crafted wine racks complete the transformation, creating a tactile and natural space.
