Paul Hodgkiss

Director I Head Designer I Cabinetmaker

My early school years sparked a love for art, painting, and drawing. I was captivated by the joy of creating something that could bring pleasure to others.

My father, a mountaineer, took me on many trips, and it was during these family holidays in nature that I found a deep, lasting inspiration—a connection to the world around me that continues to shape my work.

When the time came to choose between art school and an apprenticeship in cabinet making, I chose the latter. I trained under the guidance of brilliant master craftsmen at Piers Kettlewell Cabinet Makers, where I learned to treat wood like a precious stone, bringing it to life with every piece I crafted.

In 1984, I opened my first workshop at Virginia Galleries in Glasgow. Over the years, my workspaces grew larger, moving through various locations until 2024, each step marked by progress and passion.

Around 1994, I developed the design style that has since become our signature—a style rooted in a deep relationship with nature, which remains timeless and as popular today as it was then.

I live for design challenges. The thrill I felt in those early days still drives me today—there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the joy on our clients' faces when they experience our work.
