Our client’s brief:
Looking back to 1993…
It was Paul’s first commercial commission since he had returned, full of inspiration from his travels: the new Alan Edwards Hair Salon in The Briggait, Glasgow.
He worked with the existing stone walls and finished the interior with natural, home-grown timbers, bringing the beauty and form of the wood to the forefront. Glowing forms were carried through with some incredible cold-bent metalwork.
It was an early experience that left Paul speechless at the extraordinary talents of his great friend John, whose craftsmanship remains such a huge part of our brand to this day.
Looking back, this project still feels very much part of our story. It was here that Paul had first discovered the sheer joy of allowing the natural shape of wood to take us on its own journey - an approach to design and craftsmanship that has stayed with us ever since.
