Client: St. Andrews Square, Edinburgh
Client Brief & Solution:
Gillespie’s architects approached Paul Hodgkiss designs and asked them to design, manufacture and fit a sliding door screen, walls and secret doors to the circular building that they had designed.
Paul used Scottish air dried oak, set out in an overlay vertical slat, he used bespoke stainless steel running systems and attention to the clever design and ultimate craftsman skill and quality to keep the building sharp and functional.
Paul used the vertical slats of oak, carefully designing to produce subtle patterns with the fixings. He designed curved stainless steel structures to be clad with the oak slate, these screens were to run on a bespoke external stainless track that he sourced from Italy, locks and ‘seceret’ doors at the back along with a lot of design and thought to every detail that could have an impact on the external surface.
The outcome was the original intention; a seamless, minimal, perfect geometry outer casing to the building, ensuring that Gillespie’s design was not diluted in any way but enhanced.
