Client: Bowmore Hotel, Islay
Client Brief & Solution:
Linda and Peter McLellan, owners of The Bowmore Hotel, first saw and appreciated Paul’s work in the Bouzy Rouge in 1998 and where then to see it again in the Victoria hotel, Tarbet and the Brodick Bar, Arran before promising themselves that one day they would have his work in their hotel.
Some 16 years on Peter and Linda commissioned Paul to design, create and fit out their bar. Paul used his brand mindfully in that the hotel refurbishment should be sympathetic to regular client expectations while adding to the interior and furniture with unique Paul Hodgkiss Design features, such as resin filled character holes incorporating emblems from the nine distilleries on Islay and Jurar.
The clients were astonished at the speed of the full refurbishment and their clientele were delighted at Paul’s use of the existing materials and stone along with the tactile and robust nature of the furniture and bar.
Linda and Peter have since commissioned Paul to design and refurbish their lounge bar, dining room, hall, entrance, building frontage and bedrooms.
“Each stage of the on-going project has increased turnover, we just can’t believe the transformation to our hotel and the books!”
